On the so-called “Brennterminen” the acceptance (registration) and marking of the foals by branding them on the left hip and/or an active marking by a number brand (12th and 13th digit of the registration number) below the brand on the hip takes place.
As an alternative to the foal-/number brand the foal can be actively marked with a micro chip.
Both digits of the number brand respectively the micro chip number will be entered into the issued pedigree paper or the birth certificate.
Foals that fulfil the following requirement will get the O with the crown:
1. Both parents are registered in the stud-book in the year of the covering respectively
will be registered latest in the year of birth of the foal,
2. the notification of foaling will be announced to the breeding association within 3 months after birth of the foal,
3. the clear identification of the foal by the breeding manager or his representative has been made or
is otherwise assured.
Only the double digit number brand will get foals that do not fulfil the above mentioned requirements and will therefore not get a pedigree paper but a birth certificate as far as the following requirements are fulfilled:
The marking by brand on the hip and/or number brand is made in principle only in the year of birth.
For this the foals will be presented on occasion of the “Brennterminen” before separating and by foot of the mother in order to describe the colour and markings.
For the “Brenntermine” the following has to be taken into consideration:
1. Sending of the completely filled out “Abfohlmeldung” (see “Abfohlmeldung”) in time to the breeding association with indication
of the favoured “Brenntermin”,
2. or for foals whose “Abfohlmeldungen” are already with the Verband the written notification with the indication of
the favoured “Brenntermin” in time.

The following sorts of events are offered:
Early brand date (“Frühbrenntermine”):
Take place in spring and are pure "Brenntermine", without foal premium.
Main brand dates (“Hauptbrenntermine”):
Take place in summer. At these events the foal can compete for a premium
No stud-book registrations will be made.
After brand dates (Nachbrenntermine”):
Take place in autumn and are pure “Brenntermine”; without foal premium.
On occasion of the early, main and late dates branding catalogues will be issued. At the respective deadline the latest notifications for the catalogue are possible (possibly also by phone, the handing-over of the “Abfohlmeldung” is obligatory necessary).
We ask for your understanding that we have to keep these deadlines strictly and can not take into consideration notifications that will come in after the deadline for the respective catalogue.
The exact dates will be published in time in the “Pferdeforum” and here under Calendar.
Organisation and course of the “Brennterminen”
For all foals applies:
1. The foals must be at least 14 days of age!
2. Foals that will be presented without their mother require a veterinary certificate for identification of the mother!
3. The mother must be presented with a properly fastened snaffle!
4. On occasion of the “Brennterminen” no mares will be registered. An exception can only be made for breederswhich are resident
outside Lower Saxony!
5. The acceptance of the foals is made in sequence of the catalogue number for the identification of colour and markings.
For this purpose please have available the graphic diagram (see below) of the markings you have prepared for the verification!
Please have the diagram complete with the copy!

4. Following the premium the foals will be branded.
Issuing and sending of the branding catalogue and the horse passport (“Equidenpässe”)
- The branding catalogues will automatically be sent to the mare holders registered in the catalogue. All further interested persons can order the catalogues or buy them at the respective event.
- As a result of the multitude of foals branded on the branding tours we need a longer processing time for the issuing of the horse passports. We ask for your understanding.
- The horse passports of foals whose mothers and breeders are already registered will be sent off normally after 3 to 4 weeks.
- For foals out of mares that are not yet registered and/or new members the work is more intensive and the processing time takes longer. This applies also for horse passports that shall exceptionally be sent by cash on delivery.
- Horse passport for foals that have been taken hair samples and/or from their mothers can only be issued after having received the examination report of the institute that needs apprx. 8 weeks processing time.
- The horse passport will as a principle be sent to the registered owner/s of the mare.
Significance of the horse passport
The horse passport is a certificate for the pedigree and achieved performances of a horse. It is property of the breeding association and belongs to the horse. In case of change of ownership the horse passport has to be handed-over to the new owner. In case of death of the horse the horse passport has to be returned to the breeding association.
Fees
As to our Articles the Verband will only act for members. Therefore the notification and presentation (registration) of a mare respectively the registration of a foal is obligatory for the membership.
The following fees for the foal will be due at the event:
· Registration of the foals
· Issuing of the diagram if not drawn by the breeder
· Notification for the competition for the foal premium
· Branding catalogue
additionally if necessary and not been effected until the event:
· Registration fee, per member
· Yearly membership fee
· Fee for Stud-Book registration
· Mare allocation, beginning in the year of the covering
· Individual covering licence
The fees are payable on location in cash or by cheque.
The form for the diagram will be sent to the owners of the mares together with the branding catalogue. It is a sort of document and shall be filled out by the owner of the foal with markings and whorls as the unchangeable characteristics of the foal.
The original of the diagram will be taken over into the horse passport and the copy will remain at the Verband. Thus please always hand-over the diagram completely.
The drawing shall already be made at home as exact as possible in order to ensure a smooth flow at the registration of the foal on the occasion of the branding events.
The diagram has to be filled out with a ballpen (please do not use fluid ink or marker pens etc).
Please indicate the white markings of the foal with a red ballpen and the whorls with a black ballpen.
Proceeding
The indication starts with the head by drawing the markings and possible whorls and then pass over to the legs.
The markings have to be entered into the drawing from all sides of the horse (front and back, right and left).
Red ballpen
All spots of the horse that are white have to be contoured with red in the diagram (do not fill out the area!). For pintos the white areas will be hatched with red.
Black ballpen
The positions of whorls have to be marked with an “x”. At least three whorls have to be marked.
Black spots and markings in the fur or occurring spots within a white or flesh-coloured marking have to be contoured with black.
Please note at the above edge of the drawing the registration number of the foal (see notification of foaling or branding catalogue).
Bring the filled out marking with you to the branding event. There the drawing will be verified as to its completion and correctness.
Here you will find a sample diagram:
