For Oldenburg foals, the seriousness of life begins at their first public appearance during the early and main branding events which take place from the middle of April to the end of June each year. For the approx. 4,500 foals born each year in the Oldenburg breeding area, this is not just about being branded; they also compete for a foal premium which is awarded to especially good fillies and colts.                                                                                                                                                                                                           For the "gentlemen", it can get even better: whenever a youngster comes very close to meeting the ideal regarding to type, movement and exterior, he may receive stallion prospect status. Approx. 80 of the best fillies and colts in the year's crop are also given elite status and admitted to the auction in Vechta.
