With around 320 breeding stallions in the breeding area and approx. 7,300 registered broodmares, Oldenburg is one of the largest German Verbands. However, these figures do not sufficiently reflect the special features of the Oldenburg breeding area, its breeders and its horses. The Verband der Züchter des Oldenburger Pferdes e.V., whose breeding area encompasses the German States of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein as well as the Hanseatic cities of Bremen and Hamburg, has a number of special features to offer and not just the undisputed quality of its horses and highly successful, liberal and open breeding policy.

Special Features

Oldenburg's traditional private ownership of stallions and the well bred Oldenburg mare lines are the foundation of Oldenburg's success. Other important features include the Oldenburg Hengst-Tage with it awesome Althengstparade [Old Stallion Parade] which mirrors the entire breed and during which main premiums are awarded to stallions, the award of premiums to foals, the broodmare and riding horse championships in Rastede's Schlosspark, the Elite and Special auctions as well as the free market days, the stable with horses for sale in Vechta – and most important – the newly founded daughter Verband, Springpferdezuchtverband Oldenburg-International e.V.

Oldenburg Selection Levels

In Oldenburg, quality is the only standard that counts.  No matter whether mares, foals or stallions, if you want to find recognition as a breeder in Oldenburg, you will have no choice but to convince the Oldenburg Mare and Stallion Commission, which is made up of the breeding director along with three other, elected breeding judges.
