The breeding of top jumping horses for the International sport is the aim of the SPRINGPFERDEZUCHTVERBAND OLDENBURG-INTERNATIONAL E.V. (OS), founded in 2001. This Verband is legally approved with regard to animal breeding and thus independent in the legal view. However, it works together in close cooperation with the VERBAND DER ZÜCHTER DES OLDENBURGER PFERDES E.V. According to the breeding aim an especial high standard is applied to the jumping ability of the horses, their willingness to perform, rideability, rapidity of reaction as well as their toughness of health. The SPRINGPFERDEZUCHTVERBAND OLDENBURG-INTERNATIONAL E.V. concentrates its breeding work on the combination of best breeding material also from other warm-blood and pure breeds, last but not least to push the breeding improvement as quick as possible. The breeding of high tempered jumping horses arose from the demand for a category breeding that is deliberately orientated to quality instead of quantity. Marketing conditions and breeding trends forced breeders to mix the best bred jumping lines with dressage blood whereby valuable genetic material for the breeding of jumping horses got lost. Not only with a view on the selection conditions OS takes over a pioneering task but also in the amelioration of the marketing possibilities in connection with the allocation of an international field of activity. So over-aged borders of the origin and later breeding area were disrupted and are thus annulated. Breeding area is the Federal Republic of Germany as well as the other member states of the European Community.

In the initial phase it was important to make available to the breeders a sufficient number of suitable stallions via stallion directory. For this purpose strict standards with regard to the quality were applied for the admission and also for the allocation of individual covering licences. These were also binding at the first licensing of OS beginning January 2002. Whereas just the emphasis of performance proofs in sport reveal a speciality of OS because here the magic word is selection via performance.
By considering that nearly 90 stallions were presented at the fist licensing event and that the number of OS-foals to be registered this year exceeds all hardiest expectations you can only talk of a terrific “start up”. For example the spectacular triumphal procession of the OS-filly-foal from Heinrich Höffer, bred by Cordalmé Z-Landadel, at the regional qualification for the 2nd German Foal Championship and the placing of Championesse as the only pure jumping orientated bred foal at the end ring in the final of Lienen reveals that thereby as well the basis of the mare as well as the foals correspond to highest quality specifications.
The raised demand is reflected in the result of the first pure elite foal sale in Vechta: 23  OS-offspring, the whole lot coming up with first class jumping pedigrees were sold at an outstanding total turnover of 172.750 Euro.

With this succeeding premiere the decision to award the OS-foals at special branding dates and if applicable the admission for the auction proved itself. The breeders and especially the demonstrators needed getting used to the required presentation of the foal in gallop. However, this has supported the finding of decisions on the side of the premium commission very favourably.

Objectives for the coming years
Further on it is a particular concern for OS to increase its degree of awareness and to attract breeders from all over Germany and Europe. Thereby it is indispensable to emphasis again and again that the number of the OS-stallions is still restricted to stallions on stations in Germany predominantly. However, the start towards Internationality is made at all events.
